San Fernando Cathedral was founded in 1731 and is the oldest, continuously functioning religious community in the State of Texas. San Fernando is more than the geographic center; it has become an ecumenical, cultural, civic, and service center of San Antonio. San Fernando serves as a refuge for many of the poor in this area who come for help and trust their needs will be met. As the first church in the city, San Fernando has a rich history of responding to the people's needs in and around the church.

The Historical Centre Foundation (HCF) was established to preserve San Fernando Cathedral as the historic center of San Antonio and to extend the Cathedral's community services to the city. The Foundation was responsible for raising the money for the restoration of the Cathedral and the construction of the Cathedral Centre and the AT&T Community Centre.
Since the completion of the facilities the foundation has continued to raise money to help fund the San Fernando Health Centre, educational, social and cultural programs, as well as building the endowment to help fund these worthwhile programs in perpetuity.

Each week San Fernando brings the word of God to people who are unable to attend mass because of age, illness or confinement to a nursing home or hospital. Thanks to our generous donors, San Fernando is able to air the televised mass and enter living rooms, nursing homes and hospitals each Sunday across the United States and from the mail that is received each week, we know people look forward to it.
