Fr. Edvin Rodriguez
Fr. Edvin was born September 23, 1971 to Maria Dolores and Antonio Rodriguez in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He has one brother and two sisters. Fr. Edvin began his formation at the Archdiocesan Seminary in Monterrey and after his first year of study in Theology, he decided to change the place where he wanted to serve as a priest. In 2002, he was accepted at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio.
Once he arrived in San Antonio, he studied English for one year so he could resume his studies at Oblate School of Theology. As a seminarian, he also studied at MACC and attended two different Summer English courses, the first one in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the second in New York. The reason for this Fr. Edvin states "I like to learn the English language because it is an enjoyable pursuit for the sake of my service in the Archdiocese. This is why learning English has been so important to me. My commitment has always been very clear, both in my progress and my dedication, but I know I have to study even harder. I did not learn English just as a personal goal but as a strong commitment to the community where I was going to be serving as a priest. Everything I do is not only for me, but to serve the people of God. The more I learn, the more I will help in my ministry."
Fr. Edvin was ordained on December 8th, 2007 and began his priestly ministry at Saint Luke Catholic Church in San Antonio where he spent two years serving that community. He was then assigned to Saint Bonaventure in the Southside of San Antonio. Of this assignments he states " The community inspired me to be devoted to my own personal spirituality which is an extremely important aspect of the priesthood."
In July of 2011, he was appointed parochial vicar of San Fernando Cathedral . Fr. Edvin says " I believe this is going to be another great opportunity to serve the Church of San Antonio. I am ready to start and love and serve my brothers and sisters of San Fernando."
When he arrived in this country Fr. Edvin's first commitment was to contribute to the church of San Antonio from the seminary and in every place he is assigned. During his spare time he likes to play soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball. He loves watching movies and is taking guitar lesson and eventually wants to learn how play the piano, which has been one of his dreams.
Fr. Edvin asks for your prayers as he continues his ministry at San Fernando Cathedral and looks forward to getting to know the parishioners and having the opportunity to share his faith.
